BMW 1 Series - F40 (2019–present) Rear Bumper Removal

Here's how to remove the rear bumper cover.
1 – Removing both trims for water channel
Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.
▶ Removing trim for water channel
Detach rotary clip (1).
Feed out and remove trim for water channel (2) from guides (3).
2 – Remove both rear lights from the side panel
Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.
▶ Remove the rear light on the side panel
Schematic diagram is for example purposes. Some parts may differ in certain details.
Mask the body in area (1) with a plastic adhesive tape.
Loosen nut (1).
Loosen screw (2).
Unclip the tail lights on the side panel (1) from the guides (3) towards the rear.
Feed out the tail lights on the side panel (1) from the guides (2) towards the rear.
Observe note on unlocking and disconnecting plug connections.

Unlock and disconnect plug connection (1) as described in position #28 in additional information.
Unclip cable clip (2).
Remove tail lights on the side panel (3).
3 – Partially remove both rear sides of rear trim panel
Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.
Loosen plastic nuts (1).
Loosen screws (2).
Partially loosen rear part of the wheel arch cover (3).
4 – Remove rear bumper panel
Perform the operations on the left and right side.
Loosen screw (1).
Perform the operations on the left and right side.
Loosen screw (1).
Loosen screws (1).
Release rear bumper panel (1) at top from latch mechanisms (2).
Release rear bumper panel (1) from remaining latch mechanisms and pull away towards rear.
